Gator Park is one of only three airboat operators the National Park Service authorises to run tours inside Everglades National Park, and it sits directly on the Tamiami Trail about 40 minutes west of downtown Miami. That matters more than the marketing on most listings: the boat leaves from the park itself rather than from a commercial pond, so the sawgrass prairie you cross is the real River of Grass.

The visit runs on a walk-up rhythm rather than a fixed departure. Airboats leave every 20 to 30 minutes through the day, so you arrive, buy your park entry at the counter, and join the next boat. The narrated ride lasts 35 to 40 minutes across shallow marsh where alligators, turtles, herons and anhingas are the everyday sightings, and the pilot cuts the engine periodically so the commentary is audible.

Back on land a 30-minute wildlife presentation covers alligator handling as the Miccosukee and Seminole practised it, and there is an on-site restaurant if you want to try alligator tail. Parking is free. What the price does not cover is the national-park entry fee, which is collected separately at the counter — budget for it, and bring the pass if you already hold one.

Good to Know & Caveats
