Everglades National Park Tours From Miami

Three operators, and the ones that are not

The National Park Service authorises exactly three airboat operators to run tours inside Everglades National Park: Coopertown, Everglades Safari Park and Gator Park. All three launch from the south side of the Tamiami Trail, about forty minutes west of downtown Miami.

That number is fixed by law rather than by competition. When the East Everglades area was brought into the park, the operators already working that water were made eligible for concession contracts; nobody new has joined them since.

Every other airboat ride sold in Miami launches somewhere else — a private wetland park in Broward, the Miccosukee Reservation, or an alligator farm near Homestead. Those are real Everglades trips and several of them rate higher than the park concessions. They are simply not inside the park, and the tour titles rarely make that clear. Beyond the airboat: the deep-park tours

The concession airboats put you inside the park boundary for 35 to 40 minutes. A smaller group of permitted operators go considerably further.

This page’s featured tour is the fullest version: nine hours, a 75-minute airboat into the River of Grass, a Native American tree island village reachable only by boat, a guided walk in Big Cypress National Preserve, lunch in Everglades City, and an 80-minute cruise through the Ten Thousand Islands. It is one of only a handful of itineraries here that reach coastal water at all, which is what turns dolphins and manatees from wishful thinking into a realistic sighting.

The same operator runs a shorter naturalist version at 5.5 hours, pairing an hour on an airboat with a guided walk through tropical hardwood hammock inside the park. Both are among the few operations certified and permitted for Everglades National Park and Big Cypress alike.

What park entry actually costs

This is where national-park tours differ most from the rest, and it is worth getting right before you book.

Standard entry to Everglades National Park is $35 per private vehicle, $30 per motorcycle or $20 per individual on foot or bicycle, each valid seven days; an annual park pass is $70. Non-US residents aged 16 and over pay an additional $100 non-resident fee on top of standard entry, waived for holders of an annual or America the Beautiful pass.

Those are the rates at the park’s own entrance stations. The Tamiami Trail airboat concessions collect a separate, smaller fee at their own ticket counters, which is why a walk-up airboat listing may quote a figure far below the gate price — different collection point, different arrangement. Check what your operator says rather than assuming either number applies.

Several tours here remove the question entirely by bundling every fee. The full-day trip states explicitly that it covers the non-resident increases; the ranger-guided tour from Miami Beach includes all park fees for US and non-US citizens alike. On a family of four, that inclusion can be worth more than the entire difference in ticket price.

Timing matters more here than anywhere

A national-park day is a long day outdoors, which makes it the most season-sensitive booking on this site.

In the dry season — roughly November through April — water levels fall, wildlife concentrates around what remains, humidity drops and the mosquitoes become manageable. In the wet season the marsh is flooded, animals disperse, afternoon thunderstorms build most days, and nine hours outside is a different proposition entirely.
